WidgetStation.com carries a catalogue well past anything we offer: clocks, calendars, daily planners, timers, memos, calculators, charts, mind maps, mandal art grids and more, each one available in around ten visual themes with names like Lo-Fi, Pixel Diary, White Paper and Window 95. The site reports 87,459 widgets embedded and 981 makers. On variety there is no contest here.

The two products separate on what a paid plan buys. WidgetStation.com's free tier allows up to 3 widgets. Plus, at $5 a month, allows up to 5. Unlimited widgets means Widget Club at $9 a month. So their cheaper paid tier is still a counted tier, and the number you have to predict before subscribing is how many widgets your dashboard will end up wanting.

thePlus.so has one paid tier. $6 a month, or $60 a year, or $149 once, and all three are unlimited widgets. Nothing to forecast, and no second upgrade sitting above the first.

The count that survives into the paid tier

Most widget tools drop the widget limit the moment you pay them anything. WidgetStation.com keeps it. Plus at $5 a month allows five widgets, and the cap only disappears at $9 a month on Widget Club. That is a defensible way to price, since a five widget customer costs them less to serve than a fifty widget one. It also means picking a tier requires guessing your own future, and a Notion dashboard rarely stops growing where you assumed it would. Our single paid tier is $6 a month with no widget count attached, which is more than their $5 and less than their $9, and it is the only number you will ever see from us.

A theme is someone else's taste, well executed

Lo-Fi, Pixel Diary, Window 95, Soft Grid Green. The WidgetStation.com themes are properly designed and applied consistently across the catalogue, which is why a page built entirely from them looks coherent in a way that assembling widgets from five vendors never manages. The ceiling is that you are picking from their shelf. There is no route from a Pixel Diary clock to your company's typeface, because the theme is the styling model. thePlus.so comes at the same problem from the other end: three widget types, with full control over the type and styling inside each of them and 1,500+ Google Fonts on every plan including free. For a personal dashboard, their shelf is probably better stocked than anything you would design yourself. For a client facing page or a template you intend to sell, the shelf is the problem.

Two way sync is the thing we cannot answer

WidgetStation.com planner and to do widgets write back to a Notion database, and its calendar and time block widgets sync with Google Calendar. That is a harder problem than anything in our catalogue, and it changes what a widget is: it stops being a display and becomes a second interface onto your data. We do not have it, we are not building it, and if that is the feature you need then the comparison ends there and you should go and use it. The question worth asking before you commit a working system to it is what happens if it stops. Their trust signal is the embed counter, at 87,459. Ours is live revenue at /open and live uptime at /uptime. Both are worth a look before you build on either of us.

Where WidgetStation.com is the better pick

A comparison page that only flatters its author is not worth reading. Here is the honest side.

  • WidgetStation.com does two way sync with a Notion database and syncs its calendar widgets with Google Calendar. We have neither, and both are serious features.
  • Their theme system is well made. Around ten named visual styles applied consistently across the whole catalogue, so an entire dashboard can be made to match in a few minutes.
  • Their entry paid plan is $5 a month against our $6, and their free tier gives three widgets against our two.
  • They ship widget types we do not have anywhere: mandal art goal grids, mind maps, book trackers, calculators, photo diaries, time blocks.

Your dashboard will pass five widgets and you do not want the $9 tier to be the answer.

You need a particular typeface, and a named theme will not get you there.

The page will be seen by clients, or sold as a template with your name on it.

Questions

Which is cheaper, thePlus.so or WidgetStation.com?

It depends how many widgets you need. Plus costs $5 and we cost $6, so the first paid step is a dollar cheaper on their side. Plus stops at five widgets though, and their unlimited plan, Widget Club, is $9 a month. Ours is unlimited at $6 a month, $60 a year, or $149 paid once.

Does WidgetStation.com have more widgets than thePlus.so?

By a wide margin. Their catalogue runs well past a hundred entries once each widget type is counted across its visual themes, covering calendars, planners, mind maps, calculators, charts and much else. We build three types: Image, Text and Announcement.

Can thePlus.so sync with my Notion database or Google Calendar?

No. WidgetStation.com does two way sync with a Notion database and syncs calendar widgets with Google Calendar. We have no equivalent and are not building one. If live sync is what your dashboard runs on, they are the better tool and we would sooner say so.

What does thePlus.so do better?

Type control, and the shape of the price. Every plan we sell, the free one included, opens the whole 1,500+ Google Font library and lets you style the widget around it, where WidgetStation.com hands you a preset theme skin. Our paid plan also drops the widget count on day one, and we sell a $149 pay once option they do not offer at all.

Try it before you decide

The free plan needs no card and takes about a minute. Build one widget, put it in a page, and see whether it feels right.
