People who build the Notion community up

Who is Dave de Céspedes?

Certified Notion Consultant, educator and writer. Known for The Notion Coach, Notion Consulting Bootcamp, the Superwork Newsletter.

This page recognises Dave de Céspedes for what they have contributed to the Notion community. It is written independently, it is not an endorsement, and it does not mean they use thePlus.so.

Why you might be here

“I keep hearing that "Notion consultant" is a real job. I want to see what the work actually involves, who does it at a serious level, and where someone learns it.”

Dave de Céspedes has been documenting that job in public since 2023, in essays, in a marketplace listing that shows his scope and reviews, and in a multi cohort bootcamp built specifically for people trying to make a living at it.

Dave de Céspedes came to workflow design through architecture. His own about page describes him as an ex architect and agency founder, and traces the path from drawing buildings, to an interest in operations and team productivity, to founding a creative agency in New York, to running a practice built around making teams work better.

He works publicly as The Notion Coach. His site at notioncoach.com lists him as a Certified Notion Consultant with more than three years in the role, and credits him with building over forty Notion solutions for creators, early stage startups, and companies with 300 or more people. His profile on the Notion marketplace, which trades as Workcraft, carries a 5.0 rating across twenty reviews and names venture and startup clients including Kauffman Fellows, Uncork Capital, and The General Partnership.

The reason his name comes up so often in the Notion community is the writing and the teaching around all of that. In June 2024 he published an essay on Medium with the flat title "What does a Notion Consultant do, exactly?" A year earlier, in a piece about launching his first cohort, he pointed out that five years before, the role of a Notion consultant did not exist. He has spent a good part of his public work filling in what the job description should say.

1

Architecture, then agencies, then workspaces

The origin story on his own site is short and specific. Architecture got him interested in how teams actually coordinate, which led to a New York creative agency, which led to a workflow practice. Notion became the substrate. What he built on top of it is a consulting business with a defined shape: a workflow audit to find where information is getting stuck, phased implementation in two week sprints starting with the highest impact workflows, and then an adoption and enablement phase so the workspace gets used after handoff. His current service list covers full workspace builds for companies past twenty employees, productivity audits of existing setups, AI integration and automation work, and training. Publishing that structure openly matters more than it sounds, because for a long time the Notion consulting business was passed around as folklore between people who had figured it out alone.

2

A bootcamp for a job with no curriculum

In summer 2023 he decided to run a course teaching people how to consult on Notion, and by his own account he went in worried about whether anyone wanted it, whether he could carry the workload, and whether he was qualified to teach it. The first cohort drew 35 students from around the world, from product development, change management, and software engineering backgrounds, and ran over two weeks. He wrote up what he learned on 6 November 2023, and the takeaway he led with was about office hours and the micro communities that formed inside the cohort. The program has since grown into Notion Consulting Bootcamp, a twelve month hybrid built around a four workshop intensive on positioning, lead generation, sales, and client assessment, followed by monthly sessions on workflow audits, project management, and client retention. Cohort 03 ran its kickoff from 30 October to 20 November 2025, with the ongoing workshop series carrying through September 2026.

3

Writing the parts nobody puts in a template pack

His Medium archive is a useful record of a working consultant thinking out loud. "6 Secrets to Building a Successful Notion Consulting Business" and "How to Build Thriving Notion Workspaces for Large Companies" sit alongside pieces on impostor syndrome, on whether Getting Things Done still holds up, and on why time blocking is hard. The Notion product coverage is there too, from Notion Calendar when it arrived to his read on Notion Sites as a shipping update worth paying attention to. He also runs the weekly Superwork Newsletter, which promises one team focused Notion strategy, workflow, or walkthrough per issue, drawn from work at real operational scale. Across Instagram alone he has more than forty thousand followers reading that material.

4

Venture firms, enterprise, and agents

His recent work has narrowed toward venture capital and scaling teams, and toward what happens when AI lands inside a workspace. Through 2025 he published guides on managing fundraising in Notion, on when Notion actually works for a VC firm, and a feature analysis of Notion Enterprise aimed at VCs and scale ups, plus a walkthrough of Notion offline mode when it shipped in August 2025. In 2026 the writing moved further into agents and governance: a January piece asking what data governance actually is and why teams need it, a February walkthrough of a custom agent that pulls tasks out of meetings, coverage of Claude arriving in Notion, and a July guide to the billing changes around Notion workers. It is the same habit applied to a newer surface, which is explaining a moving product to the people who have to operate it on Monday.

Why Dave de Céspedes is on this list

He wrote down the job. Before the essays and the bootcamp, becoming a Notion consultant meant reverse engineering someone else's Twitter presence and hoping. Dave de Céspedes published the audit process, the pricing conversation, the client retention problem, and the self doubt, then built a cohort program so people could learn it with feedback instead of alone. Three cohorts have run so far, the first of them 35 people deep, and the essays remain useful to anyone in the Notion community still deciding whether the path is real.

We wrote this from public sources and we would rather get it right than get it first. If you are Dave de Céspedes and something here is wrong, missing, or you would prefer this page did not exist, tell us and we will fix or remove it.
